  2. --There was a lot of discussion about the different factors we'll encounter as a teachers, but little talk about some contributing factors to behavioral problems. What about gifted students who finish normal work faster than other students and disrupt class (my cousin had this problem a lot)?

    --"The [disabled] students who are able to remain in the general education classroom have higher scores than those [disabled] students in pull-out classes." - pg. 83

    --I didn't know that a speech impediment is considered a disability.

    Good points!
    There are several factors that contribute to the White teaching force. Can you think of some reasons why there are more White teachers? Look at your class. How diverse is it overall? Bring this up in the Big Class discussion. It is important, and I will go into more details there. Look at the graduation rates of ESOL students. Are they the same as the White graduation rates? Start looking at the demographics. Also, look at the pay. A lot of minorities, who are the first in their families, are encouraged to go into the highest paying fields, so they can help themselves and even their families. Education is not one of those fields! Keep asking questions!

  5. Question:Should teachers slow down lessons in order to improve those students who are not as fluent in speaking english.

    Fact: Over 50% of people in schools are from the protestant and Other Christian groups while the other 50% is divided between Islam, Mormon, Catholic, Jewish, None, and Undesignated.

    Question: How difficult in your own experiences is it to accommodate for all the different religions students have?

    1.Should I be getting involved in schools outside stu of school now?
    2. "The McKinney-Vento Homeless Act requires school districts to provide transporton for homeless students to stay in their schools of origin if thier paretns request it."(pg.63)

  9. -African American students are overrepresented as emotionally disturbed students becasue they're disruptive in class, so teachers simply remove them. Why can't teacher find other ways to discipline the disruptive one than simply say they're emotionally disturbed and have them removed from class?
    -To help all students learn, regardless of their ethnic or racial identity, teachers should learn as mich as possible about groups other than their own before they begin teaching
    -28% of American Indian & Alaska natives speak a language other than English, however 98% of them speak English very well.

    Fact- more and more classrooms across the country include students who are foreign born or have one of more foreign born parent. A large number of foreign born students are latino or Asian American.
