    Fact: Each year, approxamately 750,000 American teenagers get pregnant and give birth to some 425,000 babies - - this is by far the highest teen birthrate among the world's developed countries.

  2. Question- as a teacher how do you avoid getting too involved in a child's personal life situation, especially when dealing with abuse or homelessness.

    Fact- Only 30 percent of mothers ages fifteen to seventeen receive child support payments and most of those receive only a portion of the payments that are due to them.

  3. Quote- “Nearly five times as many children who live with single mothers live in poverty, compared to children living in married-couple households.”

    Question- Going along with the quote, how do we help reduce this number? If it is impossible to reduce this number how do we help these children get the same learning experience and good life experiences as the other children who live in married-couple homes?

    Fact- I found it very interesting that around 750,000 American teenage girls get pregnant every year. That number seems outrageous to me!

    Question: How are we as teachers supposed to encourage students not to drop out when they already have their minds set to drop out of high school as soon as they can? Especially, when their parents aren’t expressing their opinion about the situation.

    Question: Do you think it is appropriate for sex education to be taught in school? Because some students may be to scared or embarrassed to talk to their parents about it, it may be easier to hear it from someone they are not close to because they may not be judged as quickly for their questions or concerns.

    Question- How can teacher's reduce the drop-out rate when most of the factors that would determine if a child stays in school or not are external from the school (i.e. money, employment, pregnancy)?

    Question: Some schools think it is necessary to offer students sexual education, but parents think it is more appropriate for the students' home or church to inform them about sex. Wouldn't it benefit the kids to have sex education twice, from two points of view, than not to hear it at all?

    Fact: 10% of eighth graders, 22% of tenth graders, and 26% of twelfth graders reported consuming five or more drinks in a row at least once in the past two weeks.

    Question: Going along with the fact about teenage pregnancy, how can we lower this number?! This seems like a very amount of young women that have to deal with this? I know teen pregnancy has always been a problem, but are there any ideas on how we can start working on this problem in our schools today.
