1. Technology & Its Impact on Schools… If I break it, do I pay for it? Because I just can’t afford to replace equipment on the salary you pay me! :) Nah, just joshin’! But seriously, how many teachers feel comfortable w/ technology and the use of its equipment? It is understandable that the younger generations replacing the retirees would be more well-versed on technology. Still, how tech-savey is the young generation? Are we as teachers prepared to instruct in the 21st century? Should more technological course emphasis be placed on undergraduate degree requirements? Should the federal and state governments update teacher requirements to include annual or bi-annual mandatory courses/clinics/certification hours of such? (Txtbk. Chpt. 7)

Does using spell-check on word processing programs help students learn how to spell or does it hinder them?
-As hand-held computing device become more powerful and cheaper, they are increasingly finding their way into elementary and secondary school classrooms.

Fact: Gender differences have emerged as a factor in the effective use of technology, researchers argue that certain types of technologies aggravate the use of technology in education. For example, girls have adapted more rapidly to blogging than boys have.
Question: A lot of the defined words describe using the internet. There are a lot of bad things on the internet we don't want our children getting into. How do we prevent this? We can't always stand over their shoulders making sure they're doing the right things.

Question: How are technologies affecting student learning?
Fact: Technology tools can also assist students with special needs. For students with special learning disablilities, such tools can help level the playing field by presenting information in a manner best suited to the student's preferred learning style and unique needs.
Many schools are beginning to offer more online classes. Are online classes really as efficient as being in the classroom with a teacher?

Until classrooms reach a 1:1 student-computing devoice ratio, teachers will need to find instructional uses for one or just a handful of computers. (page 225)

Fact:The ratio of students to computers has dramatically improved in K-12 schools in the last fifteen years, dropping from about 125:1 to 3.8:1.
